Ducson Tips
Authentic Cajun Cooking for Lunch
Drove into Ducson, Louisiana, one town over from Lafayette, to Thibodeaux’s, about as authentic a Cajun joint as you can find. A few locals were scattered around the place, conversing with a tourist couple from the Mid-West.

Louisville Tips
There is a new Bar B Q place located in Fern Creek named Firehouse Bar B Q. My wife and I discovered it by accident. Our orginal plan was to eat at Uno’s but the wait was 45 minutes. So we decided to venture over to Hurstbourne Ln area. As we were leaving the parking lot we noticed some people standing out side.
We noticed some people coming out with to go boxes and looked to find out it was Firehouse Bar B Q. Anyhow, we went in and it smelled wonderful. Lots of people watching the Big Screen and eating. I got the Pork Plate and my wife got the Firehouse Sampler. Needless to say… I went back and got a half rack of ribs.

Richmond Tips
Since the John Marshall Hotel opened Oct 30, 1929, the hotel has hosted the rich and famous, as well as generations of Virginians and Richmond visitors. Spiro T. Agnew, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter have been guests, as well as Lawrence Welk, Elvis Presley, Vincent Price, Mary Tyler Moore and Elizabeth Taylor.
Many dignitaries have shared the ballroom floor with Richmonders and their guests in the Virginia Room, the main ballroom on the first floor, or the Roof Garden, the ballroom on the south wing of the 14th floor.

The Airport Ritual
Choice of luggage is important to me because I rarely ever check a bag. So I carry a Samsonite luggage set—an over-the-shoulder tote that fits neatly on top of a harder bag on wheels with a pull-up handle. On the plane, I put the wheely bag in the overhead compartment and the tote under the seat in front of me.
If I’m carrying my laptop, I forgo the tote and use my backpack instead, the LapPak by Respect. It is stylish, ergonomic, can act as a lap desk if I need it, has a removable wrist rest, and doesn’t look like a computer bag, which is safer at airports.

Outdoor Travel
If you are going to the great outdoors with your dog, make sure you pack flea and tick repellent and medicine and extra water and towels. You may also want to pack a little First Aid Kit for dogs that includes:
Matches in a Ziplock bag. You can light a match, blow it out and use the hot tip to get a tick to back out of your dog’s skin.

Traveling With Your Dog
The beauty of having a small dog, as in a very small dog, like my Chihuahua named Chewie, is that you can take him wherever you go, even when pets are not allowed. Having your dog with you is great, although it does take some adjustments in the way you travel and other things you do, just as traveling with small children would. But nothing makes a hotel room seem more like home than to have your best canine friend with you. Here’s how to make it happen with the least amount of hassles.
The Small Dog Bag
Invest in a Sherpa dog bag. Created by a woman who wanted to carry her small dog around with her, this sturdy bag comes in an array of solid colors and various shapes and versions. Some models have strong mesh sides which make for a very airy carry bag. However for most travel, this see-through bag isn’t ideal. I opted for a blue Sherpa bag with one solid canvas side, two mesh ends with flaps that can be rolled up like shades, and a mesh side which I keep against my body. No one ever guesses I have a dog in the bag—it looks just like a gym bag.

Hotel Rituals
Once I’ve landed and arrived safely at my hotel and have checked in, I try to create a comfortable atmosphere in my hotel room. I bring a little cloth lamb stuffed with lavender, which I put on the pillow for the side of the bed where I’ll sleep. I usually sleep on the bed furthest from the front door if there are two double beds or I try to determine which bed is the most feng shui.
I sometimes bring candles or incense but often have a panicky fear that I will set off a smoke alarm. Sometimes I will lightly mist the room with my favorite perfume (White Musk from the Body Shop), something to make it smell more like me instead of Eau de Hotel. In the bathroom, I always pull out my toiletries and set them up on the counter and in the tub or shower. Back in the main room, I’ll connect my computer if I have it with me. I’ll put my books and magazines out on the nightstand. If there are two double beds, I’ll use one bed as my “closet” and lay out all of my clothes on it. I hate putting things into drawers or hanging them (something I also hate to do at home) but if you are a neatnik, now is the time to unpack the clothes and put them away.&nbps; I then peruse the movie offerings and make note of which movie I want to see and at what time I should order it. Then I order room service unless I have meal plans.

Travel Rituals for Women on the Move
Once I’m at the gate, I immediately look for one of the rare outlets located in the gate seating area. Since I’m not part of any of the executive flyer programs, I cannot partake in the very cushy lounge and work spaces in VIP areas. But I am sure to find an outlet by the gate because that is where the janitors plug in the vacuum cleaners. I look out for a post or column in the gate area, that is the most common spot for an outlet. I spend my waiting time on the computer or reading magazines.
On the Plane When I pack, I make sure I pre-pack an “On the Plane” bag within my carry-on bag. This is usually just a plastic bag where I put the following items:
