The Turkey Shoppe in Texas
Exit 358 off I-35
While the drive from Austin Texas to Dallas on I-35 North can be a little monotonous, the town of Abbott, Texas has a wonderful cafeteria for turkey lovers. Called The Turkey Shoppe, this is the place to get all things turkey.
I had the turkey dinner, dark meat, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, washed down with some iced tea and finished off with homemade banana pudding with vanilla wafers mixed in. What could be better?
Be sure to order some sliced turkey to go. Sometimes, they even have some Kolaches – Czech pastries made fresh daily a few towns over in West, Texas.
If you are passing through West, don’t miss the Czech bakery stop in the Shell Station. Delicious fruit, cheese and meat pastries. I tried to cottage cheese, the cream cheese and the poppyseed. Cream cheese was my favorite.
As I got back onto I-35 North, I got a chuckle from the sign pointing in the direction of West, Texas. The sign was pointing East. Go East to get to West!
